(Bad Dürkheim, 14.6.2012) „The width of the top has become tighter “, “would probably formulate the ordinary professional football player. „A Good Year“, the well-trained PAR-tasters called it at the international bioweinpreis 2012. They gave the top rating „grand gold“ 17 times. More than every fourth wine was also found to be gold-worthy. The average rating on the 100-point scale was much higher than last year.
429 medals or recommendations for 505 entered wines – the chance to find a tasty organic wine has clearly nothing to do with lottery. This was demonstrated impressively by the international bioweinpreis 2012 . 21 skilled tasters, among them winemakers, sommeliers and wine consultants, participated in the tasting in the middle of June in Bad Dürkheim. The well-respected competition is judged by the Product-Analysis-Ranking, short PAR, developed by the head of tasting Martin Darting.
Like profilers, the PAR-taster create for each wine a comprehensive and significant profile in which the ingredients can be assessed quantitatively and qualitatively. Each sample passes through at least two passages in different test groups. Here always three tasters discuss and evaluate the wine.
“What I like the most about the PAR system:”: They take time for the evaluation. After all, the wines present at least a full year of work“, explained organic winemaker Georg Forster from Rümmelsheim.
Despite this year's medal rain the bioweinpreis is certainly not a fair-weather competition. This is also shown by the fact that 51 wines were not even in the scoring. „But the points are not the most important,! emphasizes the sensor-tasting expert and head of tasting Martin Darting. Rather the aim is to find out the character of a wine using the extensive PAR-questionnaire. The product was spontaneously fermented and then aged in large oak barrels? Or perhaps the grapes had dry stress, and the wine shows this now with an untypical aging note ? How strong is the impression of alcohol on the palate – and is this maybe for the special wine just good?
Producers receive with the wine profile important guidance for the future work in the vineyard and cellar. Consumers and purchasing agents in the trade get a detailed and comprehensive description, which really helps in the selection of wine.
Gisela Wüstinger, organizer of the competition and Managing Director of WINE System AG, Frasdorf, was delighted by the great response from winegrowers: Again we have more than 100 producers and distributors which submitted their product.“
This time not less than three wines were given 98 points, the highest rating in the 2012-competition:
Loacker Corte Pavone Brunello di Montalcino 2007 in Tuscany,
Dixit Chateauvieux Pourret 2010 from Chateau Vieux Pourret from the Bordeaux – St. Emilion and
Cabernet Mitos 2008 from vineyard Schäfer-Heinrich from Wuerttemberg.
